Horsemanship from Ginny

Just a girl who played around with her horse...

Hi, I'm Yas and yes you read that correctly. My name is not Ginny, so I better address that....

My career has lead me to specialise in equine behaviour modification as well as emotional management. Everything I have learnt all stems from one horse: Ginny. The techniques I teach, the lessons I have learnt and many of the people I have met are all thanks to her. This all grew from Ginny.

I met her as a 3 year old little mare. She was only partially broken and as I was barely touching my teens, I simply wasn't ready to take on this task alone. Her owner kindly let me spend my weekends with Ginny, helping to back her and learn things I never would have done any other way. Despite being ejected from her many a time, I became very fond of Ginny.

As I picked up the basics and became more confident, my mum eventually brought her home and my obsession with understanding body language began. Following a Monty Robert's inspired demo I started watching hoards on YouTube videos and trying these new tricks out on Ginny. We went from rides where I held on for dear life to a much more harmonious partnership filled with trick work, show jumping, riding bridleless, driving and even living our western fantasy on the river back where we would herd up cows. Ginny way patient and kind with me as a really began to unpick the best way to communicate with horses in a way they understand. There seemed to be nothing we couldn't work past with this mindset on board.

In my later years as I hopped into the professional sphere, I have gone on to have some fantastic opportunities. Life has blessed me with the chance to work with a whole variety of horses from those on the big stage to riding school favourites. I have groomed internationally, broken in and kept event horses fit as well as taught kids to ride on the old faithfuls. However, I realised my horsemanship itself may really be my strength when a previous employer of mine from the competition world called up asking if I would work with his horses to improve their loading, particularly one who had suddenly decided they no longer wanted to go on. To my pleasure, I fixed the issue.

My mind set really developed whilst I was working alongside an international dressage rider. Here is where I started to delve more deeply into the biomechanics of the horse and use movement to trigger relaxation and adjust emotional states. I found my horsemanship became more subtle as I began to learn to break down the tasks I was setting for the horse. This allowed an ease of learning for them, as oppose to me simply adding more pressure.

After 14 years, my way of thinking is now empathetic and observant of the different types of equine personality's we come across. The techniques that have blossomed and evolved from my days with Ginny mean I now spend my career helping horses and owners work together with more trust, understanding and communication. We can tackle a whole variety of issues including loading, gaining confidence hacking, mounting, resolving negative behaviours, enhancing flexibility, improving harmony under saddle and much more.

Ginny put up with my lack of knowledge and sometimes incorrect techniques. She graced me with huge levels of tolerance and let me mess around, doing things a child probably shouldn't be attempting... but she always kept me safe. Thanks to her I have had to chance to live every little girls dream and play with ponies as a career.

Ginny now lives her best life in retirement with my friends who have looked after her for many years. She is doted on and generally spoilt. I'm happy to say that I still get to visit and give a scratch to my favourite girl.

Please feel free to reach out if you are in need of some help and join my long list of clients whose equine relationships have been enhanced by horsemanship.
